Narcolepsy mimicking suicidal carbon monoxide poisoning.
We present a case of narcolepsy mimicking suicidal carbon monoxide poisoning. The signs and symptoms of narcolepsy in this previously undiagnosed man were initially missed, which emphasizes the importance of extracting a detailed history of a decedent's behavior prior to his or her death. Narcoleptics are often involved in motor vehicle accidents. This report again demonstrates that narcolepsy ...
متن کاملVictim of carbon monoxide poisoning identified by carbon monoxide oximetry.
BACKGROUND Carbon monoxide (CO) is known as a leading cause of unintentional poisoning death in many countries. Diagnosis is usually made by measuring carboxyhemoglobin (COHb), but due to the non-specific symptoms, the crucial step is considering CO poisoning. A possible solution might be screening emergency department (ED) patients. A cutaneous sensor that measures oxygen and CO saturation sim...
متن کاملMass carbon monoxide poisoning.
The largest occurrence of carbon monoxide poisoning in Britain demonstrates the potential for mass accidental poisoning. It emphasises the need for strict public health controls and the importance of good liaison between emergency services to ensure that such events are quickly recognised and that the necessary resources are organised.
متن کاملCarbon Monoxide Poisoning Sir
Sir, The recent review of carbon monoxide poisoning by Balzan et al' provided helpful advice about this sometimes difficult diagnosis. We would, however, hesitate to follow the recommendations made about the treatment of CO poisoning. Their assessment of the benefit of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) does not appear to be based on the presented evidence and the potential complications of transporting c...
متن کاملSuicidal asphyxiation by inhalation of automobile emission without carbon monoxide poisoning.
Reported herein is the suicidal asphyxiation of a young man due to exhaustion of oxygen in the interior of a sealed automobile into which the exhaust emissions were diverted. His blood carboxyhemaglobin concentration was less than 5% saturation. The car was equipped with a catalytic converter and when tested, the exhaust carbon monoxide concentration was 0.01%.
